Don Cockburn of Elk Island Public Schools has been chosen as the winner of the 2022 Bus Driver of the Year. He has been driving bus for 33 years and rarely misses a day of work. He is a Contractor for EIPS with 2 contracted routes. Don always participates in Professional Development days and Contractor Meetings. He always strives to participate in conversations and offer suggestions to his fellow bus operators and contractors. 

Don has a very simple philosophy when it comes to interacting with students and parents: “You need to respect them, and you’ll get the respect back”.

Don goes out of his way to greet every student when they board his bus. He takes the time to get to know the students as individuals and creates true bonds with them throughout the years.

 

EIPS says "He is a shining light in our school division who has become a mentor to drivers, students, and contractors alike. We truly believe his attitude, professionalism, knowledge, and heart of gold make him worthy of being chosen Bus Driver of the Year."
